#40 West Mill Wonder

Our Brides – Emma

Uber cool stationary, the most adorable 4 legged star guest and of course a beautiful couple made for one amazing day at Emma & John’s wedding.

We always ask if you feel like ‘you’ when you try a dress on, and if the answer is yes then you’re heading in the right direction. Emma felt completely at ease, and looked absolutely stunning, in Rembo Styling’s Bjork dress.

As one of many weddings that was postponed and re-arranged, Emma later added the Rembo Luna cardigan to complete the look for the new (and slightly cooler) February date wedding.

All the more time though for Emma to craft their stunning wedding stationary! Make sure you take a look at her creations at four twelve design for invites and more.

Emma, you look absolutely amazing in Bjork. We’ll be swooning over these images for some time to come!

THE LOW-DOWN

How would you sum up the style of your wedding?

Hmm, the theme was there is no theme, so the style was very similar. I’d best describe it as comfortable elegance :).

Where did you tie the knot?

The West Mill, Derby - 12.2.22 (eventually! Originally we were set for 4.3.20).

And what was your wedding dress?

Rembo Styling - Bjork Dress and Luna Cardigan

THE LEAD-UP

How did you two first meet?

We first met on a night out - I was out with friends and one of them (Sarah) invited her boyfriend Ben out who in turn invited John so he wasn’t overwhelmed by Sarah and her ‘weird friends’... Sarah then stole my phone and started texting John and we had a date a week later.

What about the proposal? When, where, how?

It was a horrible windy and rainy day (perfect day for shopping) but John wanted to go on a nice dog walk around Dovedale - I did not so obviously we fell out and went for the walk anyway.

As we were walking a usually sure footed John fell over 3 times and then dragged me up the hill and asked to take a photo of me looking at the view.. when I turned back he was down on one knee and I thought he’d fallen over again!

THE DRESS

Did you have an idea of what you wanted when you first started looking for your wedding dress? And did you stick to it?

Originally I wanted sleeves for definite. I booked in at Alexandra Anne and the week before my appointment I’d seen the Rembo Styling dress on a wedding blog and by luck Jess had the exact dress in at Alexandra Anne. It was the first one I tried on and I fell in love.. I think I tried maybe 6/7 more but kept going back to the Bjork. The cardigan was added a couple of years later when we had been postponed to a February wedding.

How did you find the whole experience of searching for the right dress?

I found it very exciting and stress free. I only went to one dress shop and that was Alexandra Anne, Jess was very calm and just let us talk it through with no pressure to buy at all so I knew it was 100% my decision.

What was it about your dress that made it ‘the one’?

In my opinion my dress is the best one out there... it was very ‘me’ everyone kept saying. I didn’t set out for anything particularly different but the balance of lace and plain-ness with the wow back really drew me in. It was also super comfortable and fit like a glove.

How did you feel once you’d made the big decision?

I think I liked the dress so much it didn’t really feel like a big decision so it was just another thing ticked off the list really.

Do you have any top tips for other brides out there shopping for their bridal gown?

Wear the right underwear! And if you aren’t sure what that is go for nude and take options!

THE BIG DAY

Tell us more about your outfit on the day. How did you complete your look?

I wore my mums earrings, some very sparkly Carvela heels, which I did change into Birkenstocks once they started hurting and hair up in a simple plait.

And your bridesmaids?

Bridesmaids wore navy blue dresses from ASOS - we got these before I got my dress and the high necks all fit together really well.

What do you remember about the morning?

My morning was very relaxed - we’d been waiting 2 years so by that point it didn’t really matter if anything went wrong in my head. I was more concerned I couldn’t get the days Wordle!

Who did your hair and makeup?

Make up was by Tansy - Tansy Hair and Beauty in Bakewell.

Hair was by Georgia and Eleanor at Georgias hair Matlock.

Who took your wedding photos?

Hannah from The Light Painters.

Did you follow any traditions? Or was there anything unusual about the ceremony?

We tried to stay away from traditions - we had my dad walk me down the aisle but we stood opposite to what is traditional because I wanted my family to see my face rather than my back and the same for Johns family. I also made my MOH do a speech because she made me do one at hers… revenge really.

How did your dress feel when you were walking down the aisle?

Felt great, light and comfortable - I wasn’t worried about tripping or anything like that!

THE MEMORIES

What are your favourite memories of your wedding day?

My favourite part was when our dog Moose joined us when signing the register… but also the speeches and the hats during the party. It was all great!

What gave you the biggest laugh?

Johns brothers speech was excellent - referring to Johns birthday as big nosed baby Monday was a highlight.

What got the tears flowing?

We didn’t have many tears really! Johns mum cried when the boys were getting ready but we were pretty dry eyed for the rest of the day. Tears of laughter more than anything!

If there was one piece of advice you could give to a new bride-to-be, what would it be?

Don’t over think it. Just go with the flow it all comes together eventually!

And last but not least, where is your wedding dress now?

Currently hung up in its bag in the spare room.
